Addis Ababa University International Humanitarian Law Clinic Presents Re-enactment of Lawyering, Other Skills Simulation of Jean Pictet Competition

The School of Law of Addis Ababa University (AAU) observed the 60th anniversary of its foundation and the first Alumni Convention with the attendance of different law scholars and alumni members from various organizations at Ras Mekonnen Hall of the University, Main Campus, on the 23rd of September 2023.

In his opening speech of the event, Samuel Kifle (PhD), the Interim President of AAU, said that the 60th anniversary of the School being celebrated in the morrow of AAU’s gaining autonomy will have a big significance in accelerating its being a preeminent centre of excellence for legal education in the global arena.

Dr. Samuel stated that the occasion of the 60th anniversary of the School presents ideal platform to frankly assess the six decades of its journey and tap into immense potential of the alumni in its bid to rebrand itself as a formidable centre of excellence in legal education and scholarship to continue supporting reforms in the justice sector.

The School of Law trains the next generation of lawyers, offers a free legal aid service to those who do not afford legal representation and vulnerable groups of our society. This, I think, means a lot in making Justice more just,” he retreated.

I reckon that building strong law school is indispensible in our effort to build a prominent and globally competitive autonomous university and I assure you of our support to the school in its reform endeavours,” the Interim President of AAU finally asserted.

Solomon Abay (PhD), Special Representative to the Dean for College of Law and Governance Studies, on his part said that School of Law always strives to give the best possible quality of legal education and produce research outputs that both theoretically and practically well grounded and oriented to problem-solving activities.

According to Dr. Solomon, School of Law has been serving Ethiopia or the broader world community through producing law scholars working as judges, attorneys, prosecutors, legal counsels, parliamentarians, Governors, professors, misters and other various capacities of service rendering mechanisms.

Alumni convention in association with the 60th year anniversary of the School, as Dr. Solomon stated, is need to provide opportunities for the law scholars of the School to meet, reconnect and travel back in time to cherish fond memories of friendship and hard work who they are today that lead them to support their former school initiated by their alma mater.
