College of Law and Governance Studies Holds Conference on Religious Freedom and Secularism

A conference on religion and secularism was co-hosted by Addis Ababa University’s (AAU’s) College of Law and Governance Studies in cooperation with the International Centre for Law and Religious Studies.

 Professor Worash Getaneh, Vice President for Research and Technology Transfer at AAU, in an address to the conference said  Ethiopia is home to diverse faiths , and the university is committed to promoting a correct understanding of religious pluralism to promote interreligious tolerance as requisite for peace and security.

Scholars from the two institutions presented papers on a wide range of topics including  secularity and secularism, relationships between state and religion, beliefs and human dignity,  and law and religious studies pedagogy.  

The institutions also signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to work cooperatively on the study of religion, curriculum development, training modules  production in law and human rights, translation of texts, and publishing.
